Lazio, where ancient wonders blend seamlessly with modern charm. Nestled in central Italy, Lazio is like a treasure trove waiting to be discovered. From the magnificent city of Rome with its iconic Colosseum and Vatican City to the picturesque countryside dotted with vineyards and olive groves, Lazio offers a perfect blend of history, art, and natural beauty.

But Lazio isn't just about the well-known tourist spots. It's also about stumbling upon hidden gems off the beaten path, like the enchanting town of Orvieto perched on a cliff, or the stunning Lake Bolsena, where time seems to stand still.

And let's not forget about the mouthwatering cuisine! Indulge in authentic Roman pizza, savory Cacio e Pepe pasta, and the famous porchetta from Ariccia. Wash it all down with a glass of crisp Frascati wine, and you'll feel like a true local.

The main cities of Lazio

The northernmost provincial capital in Lazio is Viterbo which lies close to the regional border with Tuscany, while directly east of Viterbo, the city of Rieti is considered as the geographical centre of Italy. The two remaining provincial capitals are Frosinone to the south of Rome, and the city of Latina, capital of the Latina Provincewhich borders the region of Campania to the south.

Of the major cities and towns of Lazio, there's no doubting which is the most important. The city of Rome is the capital of the Lazio region and of course, of Italy itself. Rome is also the capital of the Metropolitan City of Rome province, one of five in the region.

Three further large residential cities are all within the Metropolitan City of Rome province: Civitavecchia on the Tyrrhenian Coast is the major port in Lazio, while Fiumicino and Ostia occupy opposing banks of the River Tiber to the west of Rome.
